{"id":1763,"date":"2026-04-07T21:14:42","date_gmt":"2026-04-07T21:14:42","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/ipsport.com.ng\/?p=1763"},"modified":"2026-04-07T21:14:42","modified_gmt":"2026-04-07T21:14:42","slug":"aaron-ramsey-former-wales-and-arsenal-midfielder-announces-retirement","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/ipsport.com.ng\/?p=1763","title":{"rendered":"Aaron Ramsey: Former Wales and Arsenal midfielder announces retirement"},"content":{"rendered":"<p> <br \/>\n<\/p>\n<div>\n<p><span>Aaron Ramsey has announced his retirement from professional football.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span>The 35-year-old has called time on a career that began in 2007 and saw him make 551 appearances for Arsenal, Cardiff City, and Juventus in addition to winning 86 caps for Wales. <\/span><\/p>\n<p><span>Ramsey has been without a club since he left Mexican side Pumas UNAM last summer. <\/span><\/p>\n<p><span>\u201cThis has not been an easy decision to make,\u201d he said in a statement <a href=\"https:\/\/x.com\/aaronramsey\/status\/2041452203865497903?s=20\" rel=\"nofollow noopener noreferrer\">posted to social media<\/a>. <\/span><\/p>\n<p><span>\u201cAfter a lot of consideration, I have decided to retire from football. It has been my privilege to wear the Welsh shirt and experience so many incredible moments in it. It would not have been possible without the incredible input of all the managers I have played under and all the staff who have helped me in many ways.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span>\u201cSecondly, thank you to all the clubs I\u2019ve been lucky enough to play for. Thank you to all the managers and staff who have helped me be able to live my dream and play at the highest level.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span>\u201cAnd a huge thank you to my wife and children and all my family. He won six trophies with Arsenal, including three FA Cups.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span>After 11 years at the club, during which he also had loan spells back at Cardiff and Nottingham Forest, he joined Juventus on a free transfer in the summer of 2019, where he won three trophies including the Serie A title in 2020.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span>Ramsey had spells at Nice and Rangers before joining Pumas UNAM in the summer of 2025. <\/span><\/p>\n<p><span>In a 16-year international career, Ramsey scored 21 goals and provided nine assists in 86 appearances for Wales, famously helping his nation reach the semi-finals of Euro 2016 and qualify for the World Cup in 2022.\u00a0 He is third in his nation\u2019s all-time top scorer rankings and joint-sixth on the appearance list. <\/span><\/p>\n<p><span>His final Wales game came in September 2024, and he has not played a club game since September 2025.<\/span><\/p>\n<\/div>\n<p><script async src=\"\/\/platform.twitter.com\/widgets.js\" charset=\"utf-8\"><\/script><br \/>\n<br \/><\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Aaron Ramsey has announced his retirement from professional football.
