In fact, their performances have been widely recognised, as the same trio have also been nominated for Premier League Player of the Season.

Trio nominated for PL Player of the Season

David stood out from the off, making a series of fantastic saves in our 1-0 win over Manchester United at Old Trafford on the opening weekend of the season, and our no.1 didn’t look back. The Spaniard went on to keep 19 clean sheets in the top flight, securing his third-straight Golden Glove in the competition.

Alongside the end-of-season accolade, David also won December’s Save of the Month award for an outstanding stop to deny Brighton’s Yankuba Minteh’s curling effort towards the top corner; the stop has since been nominated for the Premier League’s Save of the Season award.

Of course David couldn’t have 19 league clean sheets without a solid defence in front of him, and no one epitomised the iron-willed attitude we had to keeping the ball out of the net like Gabriel. The Brazilian is nominated having registered 23 interceptions and 34 blocks in another stellar season at the back.

As ever, Big Gabi’s attacking contributions were just as valuable. Our no.6 found the net in back-to-back wins over Aston Villa and Bournemouth, but perhaps his biggest moment of the season was his thumping header in the 97th-minute at St. James’ Park to secure a last-gasp victory on Tyneside.

Much like Gabriel, Declan proved vital at both ends of the pitch in our march to the title. Throughout the season, Declan has played as a defensive midfielder, central midfielder and even a right-back, but the position he plays has no bearing on his attitude and impact.

As well as making several key, goal-saving challenges and interceptions, Declan has provided valuable attacking contributions, including two crucial goals in our 3-2 win at Bournemouth in January. Add to that the quality of his set-piece deliveries, and it’s easy to see why our No.41 has been nominated for this season’s award.

Raya, Rice, Leah and more talk trophy parade

This year will be the 53rd edition of the PFA awards, where current and former players are invited to cast their votes on the best players and young players in the men’s and women’s games over the course of the season.

Since Leeds United’s Norman Hunter won the first edition in 1974, four Gunners have won the award.
