Caitlin Foord picked up a crucial assist as Australia started their Women’s Asian Cup campaign with a victory over the Philippines.<\/strong><\/p>\n

Our attacker set up Sam Kerr as the Matildas won 1-0 to give the host nation the perfect start to the competition. <\/p>\n

Steph Catley<\/strong> also started for Joe Montemurro’s side, playing the full 90 minutes at Perth Stadium. The Matildas have Iran next on March 5, then finish the group stage against South Korea on March 8. Kyra Cooney-Cross <\/strong>did not feature.<\/p>\n

A top-two finish will see Australia qualify for the quarter-finals as the Matildas aim for a first Asian Cup trophy since 2010.<\/p>\n

Elsewhere, Emily Fox<\/strong> came on as a substitute in USA’s 2-0 win over Argentina in the SheBelieves Cup. <\/p>\n
