The NFL free agent pool has become richer as the 2025 season approaches. The Los Angeles Chargers announced in a press release that they have released Joey Bosa. The outside linebacker has spent his entire career with the California team since being drafted third overall in the 2016 Draft.
Where could Bosa go next?
Cutting Bosa means a $25 million relief in the Chargers’ salary cap. However, it will have an $11 million impact in dead money.
Bosa made just 14 appearances last seasonand his production dropped to 22 tackles, five quarterback sacks, and two forced fumbles. Despite that, he earned his fifth invitation to the Pro Bowl.
Several teams are in need of a veteran pass rusher, and one of the most logical destinations for Bosa is San Franciscowhere he could reunite with his brother Nick and remain on the West Coast. Other contenders that need a quarterback hunter include the Baltimore Ravensthe Tampa Bay Buccaneersthe Detroit Lionsthe Green Bay Packersand the Philadelphia Eagles.
Bosa’s numbers with the Chargers
Throughout his career, the Ohio State alumnus played in 107 regular-season games with the Chargers, amassing 343 tackles, 72 sacks, 17 forced fumbles, and four fumble recoveries. Additionally, he earned five Pro Bowl invitations.
Playoff action was limited since the Bolts only reached the postseason in three of the nine seasons he was with the team. Bosa played in four games, recording six tackles, two sacks, and four hits on opposing quarterbacks.
