The Philadelphia Eagles shut out the Kansas City Chiefs through the majority of Super Bowl LIX, all the way into the third quarter of the game, with a score of 34-0 until the final 45 seconds. The Chiefs barely avoided a shutout when Patrick Mahomes made a touchdown pass to Xavier Worthy to put six points on the board.

Biggest blowout in Super Bowl history

The Chiefs thought they’d be making history as the first team in NFL history to ever win three Super bowls in a row. This is their third trip to the Super Bowl in as many years, and one of those defeats came against the Eagles, two years ago.

But through nearly three full quarters, the Eagles defense stopped quarterback Patrick Mahomes and the Kansas City offense from getting anywhere, putting up five sacks and notching two interceptions on him.

So far, there has never been a Super Bowl shutout in NFL history. The Chiefs narrowly avoided being the first team to change that. Their touchdown made the score 34-6 at the end of the third quarter, as a 2-point conversion attempt on a pass by Mahomes to Travis Kelce failed.

The biggest blowout in Super Bowl history thus far was a 45-point rout by the San Francisco 49ers, who beat the Denver Broncos 55-10 in 1990 (Super Bowl XXIV).
