Steelers insider drops bombshell on Mike Tomlin’s locker room reputation

Despite his impressive record, including 18 straight non-losing seasons and a Super Bowl title, Steelers head coach Mike Tomlin may not enjoy the universal player loyalty many assume. In a revealing interview, CBS Sports’ Aditi Kinkhabwala hinted that several former Steelers have privately expressed dissatisfaction with Tomlin, but have chosen to stay quiet publicly.

Mike Tomlin’s job on the line?

Kinkhabwala dropped this bombshell during a radio interview with Pittsburgh’s station, 93.7 The Fan.

“I’ll just say this without violating anybody’s trust,” Kinkhabwala said. “There are many, many, many former players that I have spoken to that have bitten their tongues about their experience with (Tomlin).”

The Steelers’ aggressive offseason – adding veterans like Aaron Rodgers, DK Metcalf, and Jalen Ramsey – is seen by some as a sign of urgency and potential internal pressure to deliver playoff results. Pittsburgh hasn’t won a postseason game since the 2016 season, and although Tomlin signed a three-year extension last offseason, questions about his long-term future are abundant.

“When the Steelers and Mike Tomlin go their own ways, it’s gonna be up to Mike Tomlin,” Reporter Gerry Dulac said. “Unless the bottom falls out, and the bottom hasn’t fallen out, nor is it about to. So I think it’s gonna be up to when he wants to leave, is when that’s going to happen.”

As speculation grows and frustrations surface behind the scenes, one thing is clear: the 2025 season may be one of the most pivotal of Tomlin’s career.
