Eagles stun Commanders in NFC East showdown to head to Super Bowl LIX
The Philadelphia Eagles ran all over the Washington Commanders in the NFC Conference Championship game, winning 55-23 to send them to Super Bowl LIX. They’ll soon find out if they face the Kansas City Chiefs or the Buffalo Bills.
The Eagles run game and the Commanders turnovers all contributed to Philly’s win today. Philly had seven rushing touchdowns and the Commanders committed four turnovers that turned into Eagles scores.
Commanders quarterback Jayden Daniels‘ sensational rookie season comes to an end as he finished the game with 29 of 48 completions for 255 yards and one passing touchdown (to WR Terry McLaurin), one interception, and was sacked three times. He added six carries for 48 yards and a touchdown on the ground. The Commanders’ only other scores came from kicker Zane Gonzalez, who made all three of his field goal attempts.
Eagles quarterback Jalen Hurts‘ injured knee didn’t seem to affect him much as he finished the game with 20 of 28 completions for 246 yards and one passing touchdown to A.J. Brown, no interceptions, and two sacks. He also added 10 carries for 16 yards and three rushing touchdowns. Running back Saquon Barkley continued his dominance over Washington with 15 carries for 118 yards and three rushing touchdownsincluding a 60-yard TD run on the Eagles’ opening drive. RB Will Shipley added four carries for 77 yards, including one huge 57-yard run, and his first NFL touchdown on a 4-yard run.
The Philly defense deserves a lot of credit as well. Zack Baun had 10 total tackles, OrenBurks had nine, and ReedBlankenship had seven. Baun, Nolan Smith Jr., and Jordan Davis all contributed a sack. Baun and Blankenship, along with RB Kenneth Gainwell, all recovered fumbles by the Commanders.
The Eagles will go to their fifth Super Bowl on Sunday February 9and look to win their second.
The Commanders end their best season in decades with a lot to look forward to in the future.
