The Seattle Seahawks are determined to build a lockdown defense as they gear up for the 2025 NFL season and a tough NFC West slate. To that end, the team has signed veteran cornerback Shaquill Griffinbringing him back to the Pacific Northwest four years after his departure.
What are Griffin’s Seahawks contract details?
Griffin, an eight-year NFL veteran, returns to Seattle after stints with the Jaguars, Texans, Panthers, and most recently, the Vikings. According to NFL Network, the deal is a one-year contract worth $3 millionwith an additional $1 million in performance-based incentives.
Back where it all started
Originally drafted by the Seahawks in 2017, Griffin enjoyed the best years of his career in Seattle. In his third season, he earned a Pro Bowl nod after establishing himself as one of the league’s premier cover corners, recording 13 pass breakups and allowing just four touchdowns.
Last season marked a resurgence for the former UCF standout. While he started only three games for Minnesota, he appeared in all 17, tallying 41 tackles, six pass deflections, and two interceptions – showing flashes of his Pro Bowl form.
Griffin’s return is aimed at adding veteran depth to a young Seahawks secondary. Projected starters include Josh Jobe and Riq Woolen on the outside, with Devon Witherspoon manning the nickel. Behind them, the depth chart is filled with unproven talent such as Isas Waxter and Zy Alexander, both fighting for roster spots.
Nehemiah Pritchett is expected to be the primary backup, while free agents JT Woods and Shemar Jean-Charles round out the competition in the defensive backfield.
