The Spanish women's volleyball team said goodbye on Wednesday of the World Cup in Thailand, and in turn of its 33-year-old captain María Segura, with a historic triumph, after imposing itself 1-3 to Bulgaria, which is its first victory in a World Cup event.
The team led by Pascual Saurín, which came after the defeats against Canada (3-2) and Turkey (3-0) in the group stage, showed its best version to close its participation with four points in the classification and a result that reinforces the project that started more than a decade ago.

Spain started the meeting with authority, taking the first set by 22-25 and the second with a clear 14-25. Although Bulgaria reacted in the third manga (25-22), the Spanish did not let the occasion escape and closed the triumph with a solid 18-25 in the partial room.
Beyond not having options to advance in the tournament, victory is key in the progression of 'Lioneson del Volley', allowing them to climb positions in the FIVB ranking with a view to the next 2027 World Cup cycle, where they will have to set up without their safer bet, Captain María Segura.
Segura, 33 years old and professional player more than 15, ended her career after giant steps in teams between Spain, Italy and Germany, and being an indispensable piece in the growth of the national team.
With about 300 international meetings in tow, the Spanish said goodbye on the same day that Spain wrote an unpublished page in its history in Thai lands, and after a meeting in which it was the top scorer, with 17 points.
