Last month George Pickens left the Pittsburgh Steelers to sign with the Dallas Cowboysending his three-year stint with the team that drafted him in 2022.
Pickens was a key offensive outlet for the Steelers and the circumstance of the trade were not exactly clear. However the 24-year-old has attempted to shed some light on the situation with some now-deleted social media posts.
X user Brandon James Wallace of SteelerNation posted a thread on the platform which picked out some of the negative media headlines linked to Pickens. The player was quick to respond, blaming those comments for his departure.
“Lmaooo. I play for cowboys bro stop reminiscing,” Pickens wrote. “And trying to justify the trade, yall just lost another good player to fake reports like this one.”
But Pickens’ comments did not finish there. He went on to suggest that he had “forced” his exit despite the team wanting to keep him.
“I forced buddy. They were gladly keeping me… have a nice day and a blessed one my guy,” he added.
However there is some evidence to suggest that this version of events is not entirely accurate. When Pickens was first unveiled as a Cowboys player he suggested that he had had little involvement in the trade, saying: “It was kind of out of my control. I’m just glad to be here in Dallas and continue the winning culture that they have.”
Regardless of the circumstance of his exit, the Steelers have some work to do to replace him in their team. In each of the past two seasons Pickens has totaled more than 900 yards and averaged more than 15 yards per catchhighlighting his status as the focus of the team’s passing offense.
