So this offseason, they made a ton of moves, which included losing a lot of their key players, but adding other big names. One analyst, however, sees their offseason moves as a downgrade.
High hopes, low grades: A harsh review of the Seahawks’ offseason
The Seahawks’ offseason moves included a revamp of both the quarterback and wide receiver roomsand 11 new rookies, a few of whom address their problems on the offensive line (nine are offensive players).
ESPN NFL analyst Ben Solak made a list of the three teams he views as most-improved, and the three least-improved after their offseason moves. On his list for the top three most-improved were the Las Vegas Raiders, Chicago Bears, and New England Patriots.
Meanwhile, the least-improved included the defending Super Bowl champions Philadelphia Eagles, Pittsburgh Steelers, and the Seattle Seahawks.
“The Seahawks’ offseason got a ton of coverage, so we don’t need to rehash it all,” said Solak. “But when Geno Smith, Tyler Lockett and DK Metcalf leave the building for Sam Darnold, Cooper Kupp and Marquez Valdes-Scantling, you’re downgraded in my eyes. The offensive line still has big question marks, even if rookie Grey Zabel plays well. Coach Mike Macdonald worked wonders with this defense last season and must do so again this year.”
The Seahawks showed a lot of inconsistency last season, so it’s no wonder there are doubts about whether they are truly on the upswing or doomed to regress.
