The 2024 NFL season was one to forget for fans of the New York Giants. It was the team’s 100th in the National Football League but they stumbled to a 3-14 record and had to watch former star Saquon Barkley lead the Philadelphia Eagles to a Super Bowl.
There was major work to be done in the offseason for the front office and the team has moved to bolster the quarterback options. Russell Wilson joined from the Pittsburgh Steelers, while Jaxson Dart was a first round draft pick. They join Jameis Winston and Tommy DeVito in a stacked QB room.
Heading into the first week of team practice there was speculation about who would be the team’s starting quarterback for 2025. Based on Wednesday’s team work, there’s a clear starter.
NFL veteran Russell Wilson appeared to be the starting QB during team sessionstaking the vast majority of first-team snaps in front of the media. Jaxson Dart and Jameis Winston also took a handful.

Wednesday marked the first day of their on-field work and it was a first chance for fans to see how the team is shaping up. Wilson may have only signed a one-year contract with the Giants but with 13 seasons as a starter under his belt he will expect to be top billing this year.
“Russ has been there, done that. Been in the league a long time. Competed at a high level — 10 Pro Bowls, a Super Bowl, been to two. Lot of experience,” Giants offensive lineman Greg Van Roten said.
“He’s just been a really good voice to have in the offensive room as far as the little things. … No stone goes unturned with him.”
However Giants head coach Brian Daboll was reluctant to designate Wilson as the unquestioned starter at this early stage. He insisted that they will look to rotate the QB during these first few practice sessions and others would be given the opportunity to impress.
“They’ll all get reps,” Daboll said. “We have a detailed plan of how we’re going to handle the quarterbacks.”
