Travis Hunter was the second overall pick in this year’s NFL Draft and is expected to be one of the most outstanding rookies this season. So far, the Jacksonville Jaguars are excited about their new dual threat wide receiver/cornerback addition, but he had one task off the field that stumped him.
Hunter faces toughest task yet… drawing a jaguar
Hunter has proven that he’s an incredible athlete, dominating on both defense and offense like no other player has done before him. But apparently even he can’t do everything.
When given the task of drawing a jaguar, Hunter found it more difficult than he expected. In a video posted by the NFL, Hunter was given 10 seconds to study the jaguar on his Jacksonville cap before he had to draw it.
“This is going to be so hard,” Hunter said after putting the hat away. “I got this, though. I’m gonna just draw a kitty.”
Hunter started with the mouth and seemed content with his outline, but it was downhill from there.
“I messed up the eye, bro, it’s not even an eye no more. I don’t even know what I just did.” Hunter said.
When asked how art compares to football, Hunter said, “got to be patient…it’s definitely patient.” When he finished the drawing, someone off camera pointed out that it looked a bit like Pacmanto which Hunter agreed. Still, he seemed pleased with himself. It’s all about confidence.
Thankfully, on the football field, Hunter has both confidence and talent. During rookie minicamp, Hunter worked exclusively on offense and will get the chance to work on defense when the veterans come in for training. Jaguars head coach Liam Coen has praised Hunter for his football intelligence and is looking forward to seeing how he performs on the other side of the ball.
“On the defensive side of the ball, it’s going to be about communication,” Coen said. “The technique and fundamentals we’ll continue to harp on, but it’s really about being on the same page as the rest of the guys on the back end from a communication standpoint and the rest will kind of take care of itself.”
Thankfully, the Jaguars are willing to work with Hunter on both sidesas he told reporters he would sooner stop playing football than be limited to one position.
“It’s just about putting in that extra time that he’s going to have to do in order to be successful to play even one side of the ball at this level,” Coen said. “So, he knows what’s cut out for him, coming up.”
