The Dallas Cowboys are in desperate need of a running back to strengthen the backfield. Despite owner Jerry Jones’ statement that the team wouldn’t “look to fill voids” in free agency, they’ve done just that at that position.
Cowboys sign Javonte Williams
NFL’s Tom Pelissero reported that the Cowboys agreed to sign former Denver Broncos running back Javonte Williams. He’s agreed to a one-year, $3 million deal with $500,000 in incentives.
With the Cowboys’ top running back in 2024, Rico Dowdle, now a free agent, Williams would likely take the RB1 spot in 2025.
In 2021, Williams ran for 903 yards but tore his ACL early in the 2022 season, which kept him out for the majority. In 2023, he ran for 774 yards on 217 carries, but saw a decline in progress last season, running for just 513 yards and four touchdowns on 139 carries but still led the Broncos’ team in carries.
