The Cleveland Browns have one of the most crowded quarterback rooms in the NFL right now with five players competing for the starting job. They’ve got three veterans – Deshaun Watson, Joe Flacco, and Kenny Pickett, and two new rookies – Dillon Gabriel and Shedeur Sanders.
Of those QBs, the only thing that’s currently clear is that Watson is likely out for the season, or at least most of it. And while Shedeur Sanders has been stealing the spotlight, one ex player had shade to throw at a different Browns quarterback.
Shannon Sharpe’s bold comments on Browns quarterback
On a recent episode of “Nightcap”, Hall of Fame tight end Shannon Sharpe spoke about the fact that Shedeur Sanders is expected to learn from the veterans on the squad.
But he didn’t seem convinced that one of those veterans had it in him to teach much. While he expects Joe Flacco to impart some wisdom, he questions Kenny Pickett’s ability to be a mentor.
“Hopefully he can impart some wisdom. Joe Flacco’s been in this thing a very, very long time,” Sharpe said. “Hopefully I can get something from Joe. Kenny Pickett’s been in the league for a while. I don’t know if I’m going to get too much from himbut you know, hey, let’s see how it goes.”
In his three seasons in the NFL, Pickett has started just 25 games and has almost as many interceptions as touchdownsbut he was also a former first-rounder and is competing with Sanders for the role of a franchise quarterback. Considering the others they have on the roster at the moment though, it’s not likely the Browns keep Pickett around long enough to become either the starter or the mentor.
