Saquon Barkley reaches 2,000 rushing yards: which other NFL players have passed that milestone?

In his first season with the Philadelphia Eagles, running back Saquon Barkley become only the ninth player in NFL history to go over 2,000 yards in a single season in his team’s week 17 win over the Dallas Cowboys.

The former New York Giants star has now set his sights on breaking the all-time recordcurrently held by Eric Dickerson of the Los Angeles Rams.

When can Barkley break the single-season record for rushing yards?

Dickerson leads the way with 2,105 rushing yardswhich he achieved in 16 games in the 1984 season. Provided he is fit for the Eagles’ week 18 matchup against the Giants, his former team, Barkley will almost certainly break the 40-year-old single-season record.

If he does achieve that, he will also surpass the achievements of seven other players to have passed the 2,000 yard mark:

Player Team Year Yards
Eric Dickerson Los Angeles Rams 1984 2,105
Adrian Peterson Minnesota Vikings 2012 2,097
Jamal Lewis Baltimore Ravens 2003 2,066
Barry Sanders Detroit Lions 1997 2,053
Derrick Henry Tennessee Titans 2020 2,027
Terrell Davis Denver Broncos 1998 2,008
Chris Johnson Tennessee Titans 2009 2,006
Saquon Barkley Philadelphia Eagles 2024 2,005*
Oj simpson Buffalo Bills 1973 2,003

Barkley has reached 2,005 rushing yards, 100 yards shy of Dickerson’s tally. The 27-year-old has gone over 100 yards 11 times so far this season and will fancy his chances of repeating that against one of the NFL’s worst rushing defenses.
