Our Parkinson’s Walking Football participants were treated to a special visit from former England U21 and Premier League manager Aidy Boothroyd.
Boothroyd, who managed the England U21s between 2016 and 2021, surprised the group by leading an engaging coaching session before speaking about his fascinating football career and personal journey.
After revealing his Parkinson’s diagnosis publicly in March 2025, Boothroyd spoke openly about living with the condition alongside participants who are on similar journeys themselves.
It was inspiring to hear Aidy share his experiences and determination to continue coaching despite his diagnosis, providing encouragement and motivation to everyone involved.
Our Parkinson’s Walking Football sessions are supported by the Premier League and the Professional Footballers’ Association. Administered through the Premier League Foundation, the funding helps football clubs tackle inequality and respond to local challenges, supporting people and communities to become more inclusive.
In 2024, Arsenal in the Community won the 2024 Impartment Club of the Year award for its Parkinson’s Walking Football project as part of The Walking Football Association Grassroots Awards.
