TOFFEES COME UNSTUCK
It’s been a disappointing few weeks for Scott Phelan’s side. He took over as interim head coach from Brian Sorensen in early February and managed three WSL wins on the bounce in his first three games, but since then it has been quite the opposite.
Everton have lost their last three games in a row – 2-1 at Manchester United followed by 3-2 and 4-1 home defeats against Liverpool and Chelsea respectively.
They sit eighth in the division with 20 points from 20 matches, having won six, drawn two and lost 12, scoring 24 goals and conceding 36 in the process.
In cup competitions, the Goodison Park outfit were knocked out of the Adobe Women’s FA Cup in the fourth round by their Merseyside rivals, and their Subway Women’s League Cup campaign met an abrupt end in the group stage by way of a defeat to Manchester City.
Gunners loanee Laila Harbert recently made her debut off the bench in April’s defeat to Chelsea, and is not eligible to play against us this week.

Phelan: “We will try to be consistent. We respect the last block of games has been a tough one. We know the level will be tough, but that doesn’t mean we can’t compete. Why not Wednesday night?
“A target is to finish above where we finished last season. That might be a positive that the players could take. We are focusing on how we can play and behave. When opportunities and chances arrive, we have to take them and arise to them. The fans at this Club expect a style of play. We will always try to be a team that has a quality in the way that we play.”

Everton have no fresh injury concerns, with WSL Player of the Season nominee Ruby Mace returning from suspension.
Megan Finnigan will not feature before the end of the season, however the centre-back is making steady progress off the field.
FACTS AND STATS
We lost our first WSL meeting with Everton back in July 2011, but are unbeaten in all 23 since then, winning 20 times (D3) – that is the joint-most wins one side has recorded over another in the competition (level with Arsenal vs Liverpool).
We have won each of our last 12 midweek home games (Tue/Wed/Thu) in the WSL by an aggregate score of 39-3, since a 4-4 draw with Liverpool in the 2017 Spring Series.
We are unbeaten in all 18 of our home league games under Renée (W15 D3) and we will be aiming to set our outright longest and the outright fourth longest run without defeat overall at home in the WSL.
We have conceded the fewest home goals (6) and kept the joint-most home clean sheets (5) in the WSL this season. Six would be our joint-fewest goals conceded on home turf in a 12-team WSL campaign (level with 2020/21, 2021/22 and 2023/24).
Smilla Holmberg has been directly involved in six goals in just three home starts in the WSL (2 goals, 4 assists) – she could become only the second player in the competition’s history to score or assist in each of their first four home starts after Chelsea’s Sam Kerr in 2020 (5 goals, 1 assist).

Grace Lowe has been appointed to take charge of Wednesday’s match. She will be assisted by Isabel Chaplin and Phoebe Horner, with Ryan Atkin the fourth official.
Lowe has seen over 9 WSL matches this season, handing out 24 yellow cards and no reds. Her last appointment to one of our games was for March’s 5-2 win at home to Tottenham Hotspur in the north London derby.
