Just weeks after a contract extension that made him the highest-paid running back in the NFL, San Francisco 49ers’ Christian McCaffrey had to deal with two injuries to his calf and Achilles that kept him out of the start of the 2024 regular season. He ended up playing in just four games total after being shut down early again with a PCL injury, finishing the season with just 50 carries and 202 yards.
Now, the three-time Pro Bowler is looking to bounce back in the 2025 season, and his teammate, fullback Kyle Juszczyk had some words of warning for his opponents.
McCaffrey is back
2025 is a new season, and McCaffrey is ready to remind the world why he’s still one of the best running backs in the league – the same player who put up 2,023 scrimmage yards and 21 touchdowns in 2023.
Niners fullback Kyle Juszczyk has already witnessed McCaffrey’s epic return, and he’s singing his praises.
“Christian is arguably the best player in the NFL“Juszczyk said. “He was the Offensive Player of the Year two years ago. He changes everything, and he looks incredible. He looks so healthy. He looks so explosive.”
He’s ready for not only McCaffrey to return to form, but the whole Niners team. After a disappointing 6-11 season that saw the team riddled with injuries, San Francisco is looking more like the 12-5 team that won the NFC title and went on to play in the Super Bowl in 2023.
“I think we’ve been extremely hungry this whole offseason,” said Juszczyk. “The fact that everybody was there (in the offseason), and everyone was grinding, there was that little extra motivation to really get this thing going.”
The Niners reported to training camp on Tuesday this week and will have their first practice on Tuesday, July 22. They open the season on Sunday, September 7 against the Seattle Seahawks at Lumen Field.
