The Dallas Cowboys shook things up this offseason by making a trade with the Pittsburgh Steelers for wide receiver George Pickens. There’s a lot of buzz amongst the fans now as he’ll line up beside CeeDee Lamb, making two number one receivers for Dallas and two weapons at Dak Prescott’s disposal.
But the addition of Pickens has crowded up the WR room a bit, and someone is likely to get cut. And that someone is a coming off a Super Bowl win.
One and done? Goodbye to Parris Campbell
You may have forgotten about wide receiver Parris Campbell. The Cowboys signed Campbell to a one-year, $1.3 million deal during the free agency period, but it’s not guaranteed. They were looking to add depth without risking much, and they did so.
The Cowboys lost Brandin Cooks in the offseason, but that still leaves Jalen Tolbert, Jonathan Mingo, and KaVontae Turpin (in addition to Campbell) behind Lamb and Pickens. Of those, Campbell is the most likely to get cut.
Although Campbell is speedy – he runs a 4.31-second 40-yard dash – and is technically coming off a Super Bowl win with the Philadelphia Eagles, he had minimal impact in Philly last season. He had just six catches and 30 yards for one touchdown in five regular-season games and played in three playoff games. He did participate in the Super Bowl, but made no catches.
So unless Campbell makes a pretty significant impression during training camp, he’s the top WR candidate to get the boot.
