No one is quite sure what to expect from Sheduer Sanders heading into his first season in the NFL.
On one hand, he was a highly-rated college prospect with the technical abilities to be a starting quarterback in the professional game. However he is also a fifth round draft pick, one with some question marks over his attitude and application.
Sanders was, by some distance, the most polarizing draft prospect of recent years and one that joins a Cleveland Browns team with a pretty stacked quarterback room. He will undoubtedly face some challenges as he adapts to the NFL but two-time Super Bowl champion LeSean McCoy told The Facility on Fox Sports 1 that he has faith in the youngster.
“You’ve seen his work ethic. Everything you heard about him is not true. Don’t let the jewelry and the music and the swagger fool you. He’s a hard worker,”McCoy said.
“The first thing that the head coach said: ‘Hey, he’s the first one in the building, he’s the last one to leave.’ Sounds like someone else I know. His name was Brady. You know what I’m saying?”
If the 23-year-old can replicate Brady’s famed work rate then he is set for a long and illustrious career in the NFL. He certainly showed talent during the 2024 NCAA season with the Colorado Buffaloes.
He threw for 37 touchdowns and completed 74% of his passes during his final season with the Buffaloes. That pass completion rate was the highest in the entire country for 2024.
For his part, Shedeur has tried to calm the talk around him ahead of his debut season in the league. He has insisted that he will focus on his own game and making a positive impact for the Browns.
“I’ve mainly just been focusing on the team, everybody that’s currently around me, the coaches on the team,” he said. “I haven’t really been on my phone much or talking to many people. I really don’t even talk to my family. It’s one of those situations where I just have to lock in, stay focused on what’s present now.”
